What is the purpose of a census?

Information generated from the 2026 Census will be useful to a variety of public and private organizations that have the responsibility for meeting the demand for services such as childcare, education, health care, housing, care of the elderly and transportation. In addition, the census serves the data needs of researchers, businesses, international organizations, students and the general community.
